Why it matters here

Fixing inspections on Strathtulloh builds

The fixing items that matter most here are outside, not in. Mortar dropped into the cavity, weep holes blocked by render and ground left sitting against the slab all trap moisture next to a slab on reactive clay.

FAQ

Fixing inspections in Strathtulloh: common questions

What does the fixing inspection include?

Plasterboard finish, corners and cornices, door hanging and hardware by hand, joinery, stairs and handrails, window restrictors, and the external cavity, weep holes, gutters and grading.

Why look at the brick cavity now?

Because it is the last time anyone can see down it. Mortar packed in the cavity bridges moisture across to the frame.

What is the 125mm restrictor?

Openable bedroom windows above a certain height must not open more than 125mm, or must have protection, to stop children falling.

Do you check paint?

Not at this stage; the painter has not started. Paint finish is assessed at the PCI.

Is a fixing inspection worth it if I book a PCI?

Yes. Items like cavity mortar and wall bow are much easier to fix before paint and paving.

How long does it take?

One and a half to two hours.
